Welcome to Purple Palm Yoga

Yoga for me is not so much a Doing, but definitely more of a Being. Switching off the monkey-mind and thinking, to tune into the body and feeling. Dropping down from head to heart to be here now in the present moment.

Why Purple? It represents the crown chakra; considered to be the doorway to divine universal energy, higher consciousness and spirituality. The thousand petaled lotus represents integration of the whole. Oh and it’s my favourite colour!

Why Palm? Palm trees are an icon of triumph, expansion, singleness of purpose. Some religions view the palms as a symbol of resurrection, while various ancient cultures viewed it as The tree of life.. On a more personal level they take me straight back to Egypt; the world’s Motherland, my mother’s land; the home of my enlightening Yoga Teacher training; also home for 2 years of my life post -Revolution; being and doing daily yoga sessions as well as the occasional yoga safari/retreat from the sea to the majestic mountains of the timeless Sinai peninsula.

  • Mary’s yoga class is the best. I have done several other classes, but what stands out with this class is the fact that its actually “addictive” in the sense that she makes everyone feel so good about themselves. You will always be looking forward to returning to Mary´s class. The positivity and fun that Mary incorporates into her yoga teaching I never found in the other yoga classes I attended. She makes it easy to achieve the different positions with her relaxed attitude. Sadly Im not able to attend her class anymore since I don’t live in London. To all you others: join Purple Palm Yoga and experience how great it is.

  • I look forward to my yoga class every week. Mary is a great teacher and runs the class with a perfect balance of stretch and meditation. Always has an element of fun and I always leave super relaxed!

  • Perfect Saturday morning yoga to get the ‘creaks’ out of my bones – relaxing, dynamic, energising – and great to be adjusted too, so always aligned. Great way to start the weekend! :)

  • First did a yoga class with Mary in dahab in the sinai it made such an impact on me that i now regularly attend yoga classes in the UK. She has an understanding nature and a very inclusive feel to her classes whatever your ability and also uses brilliant phrases such as remember we are all human beings not human doings! Got to love that! Now breathe in the light.

  • I had never done yoga before and was a bit apprehensive of finding myself in a class full of hardcore yoga people and a teacher who’d be belting out poses I wouldn’t get. How far away could I have been from the truth with Mary’s class. It’s basically 1h30 of pure relaxation. You honestly feel relaxed, energized and better when coming out of it. As a cyclist I especially found that it helped me to stretch bits of my body that I’d never really stretched, hips, ham strings, back. When I miss a class I feel it now, it highlighted how out of touch I was with my own body and breathing. The other important element of Mary’s class is that it’s actually really chilled out; she’s lovely and makes you feel comfortable straight away. There’s no pressure or competition with others, it’s all about your rhythm and listening to yourself. It’s a part of the week I really look forward to!
